EE107 – Communication Systems

Fall 2020 – Professor Mai Vu

This course covers the fundamentals of both analog and digital communication systems. We cover in depth analog and digital modulation techniques, including AM, FM, PCM, PAM, PSK, QAM. We also study the effects of noise and transmission medium on communication performance via the signal-to-noise ratio, bit error rate and inter-symbol interference. We will design and analyze simple communication systems through labs and a course project. Towards the end, we briefly touch upon the concept of channel capacity, coding and discuss examples of wired and wireless communication systems. The course aims to provide students with the mathematical foundation of communication systems and hand-on experience via labs and a project.
