Discussion questions for recitations

Week 2

  • A test that is "90% accurate" is not what it seems. Why not? Can you come up with your own similar examples?
  • Explain why it's really hard to test for a rare disease which doesn't have unique symptoms.
  • Most "experts" want COVID positive-test rates to be at 5% or lower. At Tufts now, it's much lower than that. Can you explain how the statement "50% of people who test positive actually don’t have the disease" might be a good thing?
