Professor C. Hwa Chang received his BS from National Cheng-Kung University (NCKU) his Master in CS from Montana State University, and his Ph. D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Drexel University. He majored in Architecture and later Engineering Science at NCKU.

Dr. Chang joined Tufts University as a faculty member is 1987. His interests are in the areas of computer architecture, communication protocols, Ubiquitous and pervasive wireless communications and autonomous robots. He is the most senior faculty member of its Computer Engineering Program and the Director of Computer Engineering Program within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has prepared and went through four times of ABET Accreditation and plays a major role in the 1999, 2006 and 2012 ABET accreditation and visits.

Professor Chang’s research areas include Wireless Communications, Parallel Processing, Computer Networking, Distributed Computing, Multimedia Networks, Simulation, Programmable Logic Design, and Engineering Education. He has received about $600,000.00 grants and equipment donations to perform research in the areas of micro-electronics design, Prototyping Shop, Table Understanding, Semantics for Complex Table Recognition, research on Defense Data Network (DDN), Open Systems, and digital system design. He received part of a $600,000.00 PFI grant on “Virtual Markets in Wireless Communication and Computational Grid” from NSF as a senior member, collaborating with faculty members from Syracuse University, MIT, Boston University, and Northeastern University on a Wireless Grid Computing project funded by NSF from 2002 to 2004.

He has graduated four Ph. D. students and about 120 Master students. Presently his wireless research group has eight graduate students including three Ph. Ds working on various aspects of wireless communications. He is interested in wireless sensor networks. He founded the Tufts Wireless Lab at Tufts University.

In his own time, Professor Chang is active in community service and is the advisor of FTSANE (Federation of Taiwanese Student Associations New England Association, formerly Taiwan Youth Club) which provides services to about 1000 Taiwanese students in the greater Boston area. Currently, he is the President of NEACP (New England Association of Chinese Professionals) and the Chair of President Nee Chao Memorial Scholarship Committee. Dr. Chang is a former Chairman of MJNE (Monte Jade Science and Technology Association, New England) and former Vice President of NEACP. He was elected an Outstanding Alumna of NCKU in October 2005. He has passions for water color painting, golfing (still unlearning my bad stroke habits taught by 20 golf buddies) and real estate investment in greater Boston, Massachusetts.
