"Gahu of the Ewe" is a multimedia CD-ROM that was developed through a collaborative project by electrical engineering senior John Schneider and ethnomusicology graduate student Rebecca Allen. "Gahu" is the name of a drumming and dance music performed by the Ewe people of southern Ghana, Benin, and Togo in West Africa. The CD-ROM utilizes text, graphics, audio and video components to educate the user about this "good-time dance music" of the Ewe. Included in the CD-ROM is a brief history of Gahu, an audio interview with Master Drummer Godwin Agbeli, video footage of Gahu performed in Ghana, pictures of the instruments, and a section which allows the user to select the instruments in any combination to hear how the parts fit together to create the piece as a whole. Standard western notation is also provided in this section for those users who may be more accustomed to learning music through written notation.
